Occupying Our Time

You know how you always wished that you had more time to do things? “If only I wasn’t at work for eight hours, I could be getting so much done at home.” Be careful what you wish for because now we have the time. Week one of physical distancing was a little confusing, but we went grocery shopping for some essentials and stayed at home (and, dare I say, enjoyed our time off because we were still in the unknown stage where we had hope that this would be a short isolation). Week one saw a bedroom repainted and the freezers and fridges cleaned out (a great time to finally use all the food you forgot about before venturing out to buy more). Week two had us crafting up a storm – Homemade hand sanitizer, bath scrubs (wasn’t going to the store to buy more when we ran out), glittered glasses, glittered heels and wooden coasters were also on the list, and the best part was that we did them as a couple. Seeds for spring (and better times) were sown and we exercised a lot!

There are a lot of businesses and people who are facing stressful and uncertain times. Will they still have a job? Will they be able to pay rent and put food on the table? Will their business have to file for bankruptcy at the end of all of this? Through all the uncertainty, I have noticed that a lot of people are helping out their fellow neighbours, strangers, and supporting where they can – even if they are barely getting by (hoarders are of course exempt from this observation). Businesses that I shop at and forums that I follow are offering free exercise classes and daily crafting challenges to help keep everyone’s minds occupied. I am super grateful for these as I know they are also wondering how they will sustain themselves at the end of all of this. Even in isolation, COVID-19 is teaching us all about community and togetherness.

Below see some pictures of the newest projects. Links to instructions can be found above. The wooden coasters done in the last few weeks were changed from the original instructions by painting with a base coat of black and using pencil erasers, toothpicks, and dotting tools to make some amazing dot art.

Stay safe, stay busy, spend time with your immediate family, Facetime or message your loved ones, look after your fellow people and wash your damn hands!
